An original icon of St.Cecilia from our November Prayer Card Club!
St. Cecilia was a noble Roman woman who dedicated her virginity to God. She is known as the patron for music and musicians because as musicians played at her wedding, she sang in her heart to the Lord. She converted hundreds to Christianity-including her husband and his brother! She had a closeness to the angels and her husband even witnessed an angel placing a crown of roses and lilies on her head as a sign of her purity.
When she was condemned for her faith by Emperor Alexander, the executioner struck her neck three times, but she miraculously lived for three more days. She continued to pray and give her possessions to the poor during this time. As the patron saint of music, St. Cecilia reminds us that true harmony is found in a soul united with God. May we offer our entire lives as a form of praise and worship to our God :)
