An original icon of St.Stephen from our December Prayer Card Club! 

The feast of St.Stephen is celebrated on the day after Christ’s birth. Though it is often overlooked, this timing feels anything but accidental. Just as we gaze upon the newborn Jesus in the manger, we are immediately shown what a life shaped by that Child can become: a life poured out completely in love.

This truth is reflected even in the colors and symbols of Stephen’s icon. He is clothed in white—the color of martyrdom, the resurrection, and the transfiguration. Beneath it, a narrow band of blue appears at his neckline, indicating an inner garment. Placed closest to his skin, it reminds us that Stephen was called to divine life and “put on” the white garment of a martyr.
