Holy Family

Mother Mary, draped in deep red robes symbolizing her purity and royalty, holds Jesus, bathed in shimmering gold to reflect His divine glory. Her meditative gaze, not on the child but on His future mission, invites us to contemplate His great sacrifice. It's pretty cool how icons take us out of the natural world (i.e a mother's gaze towards her child) and gives us space to contemplate deep theological truths.

Jesus, with one hand outstretched in a blessing and another nestled amongst his earthly parents', symbolizes both His human and divine nature, authority and mission. St.Joseph is then found close to both Mary and Jesus-a reminder of his role as a protector and guardian of the Holy Family.
